The Phono-Graphix Reading Method

OMATAS Learning Centre, a Remedial School established in 2013, is a living, shifting adventure in education for children with barriers to learning.

The Phono-Graphix reading method is a systematic, research-based approach to teaching reading and spelling. It places a strong emphasis on phonemic awareness, recognizing that the understanding of sound-letter relationships is fundamental to literacy development.

In the context of remedial and special needs education, Phono-Graphix is often employed as an intervention to address reading difficulties. The method breaks down the English language into a set of 44 phonemes and teaches students how these sounds correspond to specific letters or letter combinations. It uses a multisensory approach, incorporating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic elements to cater to diverse learning styles.

Phono-Graphix is particularly effective for students with dyslexia and other reading challenges. By explicitly teaching the connections between sounds and letters, it helps individuals overcome barriers to reading fluency and comprehension. The method is flexible and adaptable, allowing educators in remedial and special needs settings to tailor instruction to the unique needs of each student, fostering a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.
